My name is Jennifer Schaeffer (she/her), and I am a doula. As a birth worker, it is my goal to educate birthing parents before the time comes for their baby to be born, and to support those parents through the birthing process. Birth can be a wonderful and exciting, empowering experience, or it can be terrifying and nerve wracking, with a sense of a total loss of control over one's one body and choices. My goal as a doula is to help give parents the tools they need to go through this process feeling empowered and in control of every step of the process.
Birth looks differently for different people. Some will go into labor naturally, and deliver vaginally. Others will go the route of induction, or scheduled cesarean. Some will go the route of attempting a natural birth, only for things to change mid-labor that necessitate a change in plans - sometimes drastically. I will walk you through what these are before you ever see the inside of the birthing room, so that if things do change outside the original plan, we are able to change gears, and you as the birthing parent will have already gathered the knowledge necessary to still remain in control.
